Guest Scientist
International expertise in inorganic chemistry, brought to the department
The Department of Chemistry, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus
is pleased to welcome Prof. Dr. Axel Klein of the University of
Cologne, Germany as a DAAD Guest Scientist. The visit is supported
by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), which funds German academics
to teach and collaborate at partner institutions abroad.
DAAD Guest Scientist
Prof. Dr. Axel Klein
Professor, Institute of Inorganic Chemistry
University of Cologne, Germany
His expertise encompasses inorganic and coordination chemistry,
organometallic compounds, transition‑metal chemistry, and advanced molecular
materials.
During his stay Prof. Klein will teach a short course on Coordination
Chemistry, open to BS, MS and PhD students of the department. The
course runs across four themes:
- Theory
- Structure
- Reactivity
- Applications
Coordination chemistry sits at the centre of a great deal of modern inorganic research:
it underpins catalysis, metal‑based medicines, sensing and the design of functional
materials. Teaching it directly from an active research group gives students the current
view of the field alongside the textbook treatment.
The visit continues a relationship that is already established. Prof. Klein previously
delivered a seminar at the department on Functionalizing Thiosemicarbazones, and
he is among the invited speakers for the International Symposium on Advanced
Materials (ISAM 2026) hosted by the Interdisciplinary Research Centre in
Biomedical Materials. Returning as a DAAD Guest Scientist extends that engagement from a
single lecture into a taught course.
The visit supports the department’s theme, From Molecular Science to Digital
Industrial Solutions, and its continuing effort to bring international expertise
directly to its students.
