Hands-on Training in Data Analysis and AI

We are pleased to share the successful completion of a 2-Day Workshop on Data Analysis and Artificial Intelligence (AI), held on 27–28 August at the Interdisciplinary Research Center in Biomedical Materials (IRCBM), COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI), Lahore Campus.

The workshop provided participants with a combination of conceptual lectures and hands-on practical training in data analysis, Python programming, machine learning, and AI.

Topics Covered

  • Introduction to Data Analysis and Machine Learning
  • Exploratory analysis of numerical data using Python
  • Data cleaning and preprocessing for analysis
  • Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA)
  • Data visualization and interpretation of numerical data
  • Machine learning using numerical data
  • Web scraping and extraction of data from online sources
  • Image classification and introduction to Computer Vision

For practical exercises, participants used Python through Google Colab, providing hands-on experience with a cloud-based computational environment without requiring extensive software installation on individual computers.

A Conducive Environment for Learning

The sessions were hosted at IRCBM, CUI Lahore Campus, which provided the facilities and the collaborative setting in which participants could work through the exercises together.

6C Training Program

Integrating the 6Cs into Data Analysis & AI

An important component of the workshop was the 6C Training Program, introduced in accordance with the vision of the Rector, Prof. Dr. Raheel Qamar (T.I.). The 6Cs provide a framework for developing the skills required to thrive in today’s rapidly evolving digital and AI-driven world.

01

Coding

Participants developed logical and computational thinking through Python programming in Google Colab, using code for data cleaning, analysis, visualization, machine learning, and problem-solving.

02

Cybersecurity

Participants were introduced to the importance of responsible data handling, privacy, and security when collecting, processing, storing, and analyzing digital information, particularly when using online platforms and AI-based technologies.

03

Cloud Computing

Through Google Colab, participants gained practical experience with a cloud-based programming and computing environment, allowing them to execute Python code, work with datasets, and perform computational analyses using online resources.

04

Co-Intelligence

The workshop demonstrated how humans and AI can work together to enhance coding, data analysis, research, problem-solving, and decision-making — exploring AI as a collaborative tool while emphasizing human judgment, verification, responsibility, and ethical use.

05

Creativity

Through applications such as web scraping, data visualization, image classification, computer vision, NLP, and machine learning, participants were encouraged to think creatively and explore how data and AI can be used to address real-world problems.

06

Communication

Participants developed the ability to interpret and communicate data-driven insights through visualizations, discussions, presentations, and collaborative activities, highlighting the importance of communicating technical findings effectively.

Beyond the Tools

By integrating the 6Cs with practical Data Analysis and AI training, the workshop aimed not only to introduce participants to modern computational tools but also to develop broader competencies in coding, cloud computing, AI–human collaboration, creativity, cybersecurity awareness, and effective communication.
