Collaboration, capacity and research output

Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas, Director, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, continued his engagements focused on academic collaboration, institutional development, and the improvement of student and employee facilities.

The day brought three visitors to the Director Secretariat, a delegation from Huawei planning a specialised laboratory on campus, a meeting of academic Heads of Department on research funding and HEC rankings, and a working session with the Information Technology Services team that ended with an instruction to lay the groundwork for an in-house software house.

02 Industry

A delegation from Huawei on a specialised laboratory

The Campus Director welcomed a delegation from Huawei to discuss the technical requirements, spatial arrangements and equipment installation for a specialised laboratory facility.

The collaboration aims to enhance practical technology training and to strengthen industry with the human resource it needs.

03 Research

One proposal, one industry project, from every PhD faculty member

Chairing a meeting of the academic Heads of Department, the Director asked that every PhD faculty member submit at least one comprehensive research proposal for the current and upcoming grant calls.

Each faculty member is likewise expected to secure at least one contract research project with an external industry or public-sector partner.

He further advised that departments systematically target the key performance indicators that drive Higher Education Commission (HEC) university rankings.

04 Digital

A software house of the campus’s own

During a working lunch organised by the Information Technology Services (ITS) section, the Campus Director reviewed ongoing IT operations and urged the team to modernise the campus’s existing digital facilities.

Recognising the technical expertise of the team, he advised ITS to lay the groundwork for an in-house software house or spin-off enterprise offering commercial IT solutions, and promised complete institutional backing for the initiative.
