Motivational Seminar by Syed Qasim Ali Shah

With the collaboration of the Danish Society of Library Information Services, CUI Lahore, The Sociology Class of SP23-BBA, Department of Management Sciences has organized the seminar with the title "kitab say muashry ki taribiat mumkim hay". The seminar was held on March 25, 2024, in the seminar room of A Block.

Syed Qasim Ali Shah, a renowned scholar, philosopher, motivational speaker and TV anchor was the guest speaker of the seminar. Dr. Asad Hussain, Director CUI Lahore was the chief guest.

The thought-provoking talk by Syed Qasim Ali Shah left an indelible mark on the students, igniting a fire of motivation and ambition within them. The motivational talk insights have undoubtedly sparked a newfound sense of purpose and determination among seminar attendees. The positive impact of the talk on the students can be easily anticipated.

At the end, the Director, CUI Lahore presented the COMSATS souvenir to the guest.

Book Launching Ceremony

The Library Information Services (LIS) of COMSATS University (CUI) Lahore Campus organized a book launching ceremony of “1000 Words for the New Millennium” by Dr. Abdus Sattar Abbasi in the Seminar Hall of Block-A of the Campus. Mr. Hafeez Ullah Nizai, Mr. Nasrullah Malik and Prof. Dr. Ishtiaq Ahmad Gondal graced the occasion as guests of honor. Prof. Dr. Syed Asad Hussain, Director COMSATS University Lahore Campus, was the chief guest of the event.

Incharge LIS Dr. Muhammad Tariq Najmi welcomed all guests and participants of the event; he emphasized to inculcate the culture of reading through recognizing publishing of books. Prof. Dr. Ishtiaq Gondal appreciated a predominant message of hope by the book and applauded the author commendable efforts in writing the book. Mr. Nasrullah Malik encouraged participants to promote the tradition of speaking and writing truth come what may.

Mr. Hafeez Ullah Niazi appreciated efforts of the author covering diverse topic in the book, however, he disagreed with some premises of the author. He suggested some new areas to the author to include in the next edition of the book. The chief guest Prof. Dr. Asad Hussain appreciated organizers for a successful program and encouraged them to continue this tradition. He also thanked all guests on sparing time to join the launching ceremony of the book. Concluding remarks were followed by presenting souvenirs and book to the guests.

Two Days Annual Book Fair at COMSATS University Lahore

COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore campus has organized 2-Days “BOOK FAIR 2022” on 20th & 21st of December 2022. Renowned book companies from all over Pakistan participated in this grand book fair. The main idea of this exhibition was to develop reading habits and interest in reading among students and faculty.

The worthy Director of CUI-Lahore Dr. Asad Hussain along with Dr. Muhammad Asif (Convener Library Affairs) and Dr. Muhammad Traiq, Library Incharge, Head of Departments, Faculty members and library staff inaugurated the ceremony. After inaugurating the book fair, Dr. Asad Hussain with distinguished participants visited the various stalls and lauded the efforts of CUI Library administrations for providing books at discounted rates. Talking about the event Dr. Asad Hussain said that books are our best friends and book fairs play a great role in encouraging the reading habit among people of all ages. He also added that "Books are your best friends" who keep themselves abreast of the importance of constantly changing times and their modifying influence on readers, especially children and youngsters. A book fair can play an important role in developing the habit of reading books among the people. It is a device to spread culture, education, and knowledge. It changes our outlook on life and widens our domain of learning.

A vast range of books on significant areas, like Engineering Sciences, Management, English, Urdu Literature, Social Sciences, Natural sciences, Pharmacy, Mass communication, Islamic Studies and research were available in this book fair. Up to 30% discount on all books were also provided to the students. Many students were gathered there to enjoy the book fair and to select the books for their own use and for the library as well.

Book Talk with Dr. Osama Siddique and Farrukh Hussain

With the collaboration of the English @ Humanities Department, Library Information Services, CUI Lahore has organized a "Book Talk" on November 24, 2022. Renowned Authors Dr. Osama Siddique and Farrukh Hussain talked about their recent publications. Dr. Osama discussed about the books, reading and the publishing process of general books then he highlighted the main aspects of his own newly published book titled "Snuffing Out the Moon". The second author Mr. Farrukh Husain also talked about his book titled " Afghanistan in the Age of Empires". The audience took a keen interest in the talk and asked many questions from the authors.

Dr. Javaria Farooqui and Dr. Tariq thanked the guests and the audience for their time and participation. Both authors gifted the books to the CUI Lahore library.

Seminar on "Responsibilities of Students in Progress of Pakistan"

With the collaboration of Media & Communication Studies, SP22, the Library Information Services CUI Lahore has organized a seminar entitled "Responsibilities of Students in Progress of Pakistan".

Orya Maqbool Jan, a famous journalist, columnist and analyst delivered a lecture on the educational system of Pakistan. He concluded that the students are our strenght and we we give the right direction to theses student and the pakistna can progress day and night.The incharge library CUI Lahore Dr. Muhammad Tariq welcomed the honorable guest and all the participatns.

All Library staff, faculty members and a number of students from different departments attend the session, The audience took a keen interest and enjoyed the session, In the end of session Dr. Muhammad Tariq thanked the guests and the audience for their time and participation, Dr. Shamim Fatima (HOD Humanities Department) presented shield to honorable guest.

Inauguration of Tariq Aziz Collection

It is a real pleasure to share that Dr. Hajira Tariq has Donated the 3500 books to Library information services, CUI Lahore. Most of the books related to Islam, History and Urdu Literature. The collection also the letters, personal diaries and other material related to Tariq Aziz (Neelam Ghar). CUI Lahore library arranged books in separate section with the name of “Tariq Aziz Collection”. This is really a great gesture of Dr. Hajira Tariq and she selected the COMSATS library for the donation of his valuable books.

Through this donation, the CUI Lahore students will learn and seek knowledge from these books and will also enjoy reading as a constructive way of spending their time.

Inauguration ceremony was graced by worthy Rector COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) Dr. Tabsuum Azfal, along with Dr. Asad Hussain (Director CUI Lahore) and Dr. Muhmmad Tariq (Library Incharge). Ceremony was held in the main library of CUI Lahore.

MOU Signing Ceremony between CUI Lahore & UMT Libraries

Library Information Services CUI Lahore aims to provide opportunities to its students and faculty to access latest literary and research-oriented resources. In this regard, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed between Library information services CUI Lahore and UMT Lahore Library. The purpose of this MoU was to strengthen research, library services and promote a reading culture among library users of both institutions.

From COMSATS side, the MoU was signed by Dr. Rashid A. Khan, Additional Registrar, CUI Lahore, and Dr. Muhammad Tariq, Library Incharge. From UMT side, Mr. Khalid Naqvi, Director office of corporate Linkages and placement- OCLP UMT Lahore and Mr. Zaheer Ahmad, Director Libraries signed the MoU. This MoU will definitely create strategic alliance and seamless linkages among both libraries to cooperate in areas of:

1. Sharing Library Materials.
2. Research collaboration
3. Sharing professional expertise in library science
4. Conducting workshops/ seminars in mutually agreed areas

The ceremony was graced by the following officers: Dr. Muhammad Tariq, Library Incharge, CUI Lahore. Mr. Zaheer Ahmad, Chief Library officer, UMT Lahore, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Asif, Convener Library Information Services CUI Lahore, and Ms. Nasira Munir, Assistant Librarian.

At the end of the ceremony, the shield was presented to the officials of COMSATS university. Later on, the COMSATS delegation met with Rector, UMT and he congratulated both parties for this wonderful professional venture. Finally, the delegates visited the UMT library which is in the renovation phase. The COMSATS delegates thanked Mr. Zaheer for the wonder arrangement of the ceremony and his hospitality.

Book Talk

With the collaboration of the English Section of the Humanities Department, the Library Information Services CUI Lahore has organized the “Book Talk” on October 13, 2022.

The guest speaker was Ms. Sara Naveed who is the author of four books named “Undying Affinity”, “Our Story End Here”, “All of My Heart”, and “The World Between Us. Recently she also published her new book titled “The Cold Heart”. She talked about her latest book and at the end, she responded to all the questions, raised by the participant. A good number of faculty members and students attend the book talk.

Dr. Javaria Farooqui and Dr. Muhammad Tariq was the organizer of this event. Both thanked the guests and appraised the intellectual contribution of the author.

International Recognition of Dr. Muhammad Tariq

Library Information Services CUI Lahore pleased to share that Dr. Muhammad Tariq nominated as a Co-Chair for ASIS&T 24-Hour Global Conference, which was held on April 26-27, 2022. There were only two co-chairs of the conference and Dr. Muhammad Tariq was one of them. This was the first-ever conference of its type, organized by ASIS&T. Renowned speakers and panelists from around the globe shared their thoughts with the audience. That was also honored for Dr. Muhammad Tariq to lead the Asia/Pacific Region, consisting of 62 countries. Training Session for Library Staff

As per library tradition, the Library Information Services CUI Lahore organized one training for the library staff. The purpose of this training is to improve the skills of professional staff. The title of said training was “Management Skills for library Professionals”. This training was held on August 31, 2022. All the professional staff attended the session and learnt the techniques of management skills. This one-day training covered the following topics:

MS Excel
Soft skills: key to success
Intellectual property loss
Good Governance

Ms. Nasira Munir, Assistant Librarian was the resource person for all the training sessions. She got this training from the Bara Galo conference and she replicated said training sessions in CUI Lahore.

Visit of PCATP Delegation at CUI Lahore Library

A team of Pakistan Council of Architects and Town Planners (PCATP) visited Library Information Services, CUI Lahore and Departmental Library of the Architecture and design on June 17, 2022. The delegations visited the library along Dr. Shariyeh Hosseini, Head of Architecture Department with Senior Faculty members of Architecture Department, for the accreditation of BAR. Mr. Muhammad Ishtiaq and Ms. Nasira Muneer welcomed the delegates and briefed them about library resources and services. The Delegation of PCATP also visited different sections of the library and admired the services and infrastructure that are being provided to the library users.

CUI Lahore Library Received a Donation from Dr. Sarfaraz

It is pleasure to share that Dr. Muhammad Sarfraz has donated the 500 latest books to Library Information Services, CUI Lahore. Most of the books are related to Computer Science and Computer Engineering subjects. CUI Lahore library arranged books in a different section with the name of Dr. Muhammad Sarfraz. This is really a great gesture of Dr. Sarfaraz and he select the COMSATS library for the donation of his valuable books.

Through this donation, the CUI Lahore students will definitely learn and seek knowledge from these books and they will also enjoy the reading as a constructive way of spending their time. Inauguration ceremony graced by worthy Director Dr. Asad Hussain along with Dr. Muhammad Sarfraz, Dr. Hajira Tariq, and Dr. Muhammad Tariq (Library Incharge) Dr. Muhammad Asif (CLA) was held in the main library of CUI Lahore. At the end a souvenir was presented to the guests by a worthy Director.

Visit of NBEAC Delegation

A team of National Business Education Accreditation Council (NBEAC) visited Library Information Services, CUI Lahore and Departmental Library of Management Sciences on May 24, 2022 along with Senior Faculty members of Management Science department, for the accreditation of BBA, BAF and MBA. Dr. Muhammad Tariq Librarian along with Naveed Siddique welcomed and briefed the delegates about library resources and services. The Delegation of NBEAC also visited different sections of the library and admired the services and infrastructure that are being provided to the users..
