Message from the Head of Department

Chemistry is a major scientific discipline, which consists of several sub disciplines that form connections with other sciences to spawn new fields. Chemistry problem solving has far-reaching relevance to many aspects of our daily life and our future career as well. Solving the problems of today or tomorrow requires its connections with Ecology, Material Science, Planetary Science, Meteorology, Molecular Biology and Genetic Engineering. Chemical principles apply to many other specialties from medicine and pharmacology to art restoration and criminology, from genetics and space research to archaeology and oceanography.
In the Department of Chemistry at COMSATS, Lahore, we study and develop experimental and theoretical tools to understand and control the behavior of electrons, atoms, molecules and materials – to the benefit of science and society. In addition to our role providing foundational scientific knowledge, Chemistry’s natural synergy with other sciences leads our faculty and students into fascinating exchanges across disciplines, across campus and around the globe. Our department is working in various collaborative projects across all aspects of science, engineering, medicine. We have expertise in organic, inorganic, physical, biolological and theoretical/computational, chemistry which are quite attractive for talented students and researchers.
Our graduate programs (MS & PhD) are planned according to the growing demand of chemists in the fields of agriculture, environment, mineralogy, petroleum and medicine. Structuring our teaching in the traditional disciplines of Organic, Inorganic, Analytical and Physical Chemistry, we do research in a wide variety of topics covering a number disciplines. Currently we are working on the research projects in drug delivery, Electro-, Computational, Pharmaceutical, Material, Industrial, Synthetic & Nano Chemistry.
Fully functional state of the art labs, library and allied facilities are available at CUI, Lahore. Our Laboratories are equipped with the most modern and automated technology. A wide range of instruments like Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer, Gas Chromatograph, X-Ray Diffractometer, Scanning Electron Microscope, Anaerobic chamber, fume hoods, centrifuges, laminar flow hoods, UV-Vis & IR Spectrophotometers, Differential Scanning Calorimetry, Thermal Analyzer, Universal Testing Machine, Rheometer, sonicators, etc., are available to facilitate MS and PhD programs under the guidance of highly qualified faculty and supporting staff.
