Bachelor of Science in Chemistry

Overview

The Department of Chemistry at COMSATS University offers a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Chemistry program that is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental principles and practices of chemistry. The program combines theoretical knowledge with practical experience, preparing students for successful careers in the industry, academia and R&D organization.
The BS Chemistry program is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in mathematics, biology, physics, and chemistry, as well as specialized knowledge in chemistry. The curriculum covers a wide range of topics including physical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, computational chemistry, biomedical materials, biochemical sensors, spectroscopic techniques, instrumentation, reaction kinetics, polymer chemistry, environmental chemistry and research methodology.
The BS Chemistry program includes internship component, providing students with hands-on experience in industry. This allows students to apply the knowledge they have gained in the classroom to real-world situations and to make important connections in the field. Additionally, students have the opportunity to participate in research projects under the guidance of faculty members, helping them to develop a research mindset, to improve their problem-solving skills and to apply the knowledge and skills learned in the classroom to real-world projects.
Graduates of the BS Chemistry program are well-prepared for a wide range of careers in the chemical industry, academia and R&D organizations. They can work in Environmental Protection Department, Punjab Food Authority, Punjab Forensic Science Agency, Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, Colleges and Universities, Irrigation Department, Research Labs, Pathology Labs in hospitals and many more.

Specializations offered in the BS Chemistry program are:

  • Organic Chemistry
  • Inorganic/Analytical Chemistry
  • Physical Chemistry
  • Applied/Industrial Chemistry
  • Biochemistry

 Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for admission to the BS Chemistry program, applicants must meet the following minimum educational requirements:

  • Intermediate / F.Sc. (HSSC) or equivalent qualification with Chemistry as a subject.
    This includes:
  • F.Sc. Pre-Medical
  • F.Sc. Pre-Engineering
  • A-Level with Chemistry as one of the subjects
  • Any other equivalent qualification recognized by IBCC/HEC
  • Minimum marks requirement:
  • At least 50% marks in Intermediate (or equivalent) from an accredited educational institution.

Subject Requirements

To be considered for BS Chemistry, candidates must have studied Chemistry at the Intermediate level (or equivalent). This ensures a foundational knowledge base required for the program.

  • Entrance Test Requirement

In addition to academic marks, applicants must submit a valid NTS test score (NAT) as per COMSATS policy.

  • Merit / Weightage Breakdown

For BS Chemistry admissions, the typical merit formula (used by COMSATS) includes:

  • 10% from Matric marks
  • 40% from Intermediate (or equivalent) marks
  • 50% from the NTS test resultThis means that success in both academics and the entrance test strongly influences final admission merit.
