Thematic Session on “Water Conservation and Management” Organised by Department of Chemistry and Department of Chemical Engineering COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus in PCBF 2019
An afternoon thematic session on “Water Conservation & Management” was jointly
organised by Department of Chemistry and Department of Chemical Engineering COMSATS
University Islamabad, Lahore Campus. This session witnessed many participants and several
technical speakers shared their views related to importance of water crisis and its solutions.
The session began with the recitation of Holy Quran by Dr. Javid Iqbal, Assistant Professor,
Department of Chemistry. Dr. Murid Hussain, head of Chemical Engineering Department,
welcomed the guests and emphasized upon the rationale behind this endeavour for hosting.
Dr. Zulfiqar Ahmad Bhatti, Assistant Professor at CUI Abbottabad campus discussed the
important role of water in economic building of any country. According to him, industries
and academia should play its role to find solution of water crisis in the country. Dr. Rabia
Nazir, senior scientific officer from PCSIR, Lahore talked about water contamination (Heavy
Metals) and its remediation through metal oxide nanoparticles. Dr. Asma Saeed, principal
scientific officer and head industrial liaison office, PCSIR Laboratories emphasized the
importance of research collaboration between government bodies, industries and academia.
Engr. Zamir Ahmed Soomro, Regional Director, PCRWR spoke on water conservation in
agriculture sector, its challenges and solutions. He told that wastewater can be used to irrigate
lands and this might be inaugural of new era in both agriculture and waste treatment
industries. With huge flow of students and researcher from all over the country, this session
ended with solid determination on saving water and enhancing country’ s resources to recycle
waste-water. Dr. Mazhar Amjad Gilani, Head of Chemistry Department, thanked all the
participants for their valuable contributions in the end.
