1st Industrial Visit of MS Students of Department of Chemistry to Searle Pharmaceutical Company
MS Chemistry students of FA 18 and SP 19 batches of Department of Chemistry along with HOD and faculty members, CUI-Lahore campus, visited to renowned Pharmaceutical group named Searle Company Ltd., Lahore as study tour on 20th April. They were well received and briefed about the company profile as well as production units by Manager Quality Operations i.e Mr. Khalid Pervez. Searle Company was established at Karachi in 1965 as a subsidiary of G.D. Searle & Co., U.S.A. that was converted into a Public Limited Company with 100% Pakistani ownership in 1993. It has the license of drugs manufacturing under the Drugs Act, 1976, and is approved by the Central Licensing and Registration Boards, Ministry of Health, Govt. of Pakistan.
Searle company manufactures large range of quality drugs for the treatment of cardiovascular, GIT, orthopedic, oncology and gynecology ailments. This pharmaceutical industry maintains ISO Quality Standards starting from the supply chain of raw materials till the finished products. It has also established nutrition, biosciences, infusion, and disposable divisions for the consumers. Students showed keen interest in different production units and learnt a lot about large batch chemical processes/reactions by observing most modern state of the art manufacturing facility. Students also visited Analytical Labs equipped with modern analytical tools like HPLC, FT-IR, and GC Spectrophotometer. The internship program for students and research collaboration was also discussed as future prospective opportunities for fresh graduates. This valuable visit ended with the vote of thanks by Dr. Robina Farooq to the management of the Searle Company.
