Patent granted to Dr. Muhmmad Shahid Nazir (Assistant Professor) Department of Chemistry COMSATS, CUI, Lahore

Dr Mohammad Shahid Nazir has been granted with a patent related to Desulphurization of Diesel. Malaysian Patent (PI 2017700790), entitled “Diesel Desulphurization using Surface Modified Cellulose from Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunches” is related to desulphurization of diesel. The aforementioned invention relates to celluloses extracted from oil palm empty fruit bunches (OPEFB), and more particularly relates to surface modification of cellulose fibers from Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunches for heavy metal sorption and diesel desulphurization. Sulfur in diesel fuel contributes to increased acid levels in the engine and causes serious damage to the engine and emission affects the ecosystem. Long term diesel-particulate exposure causes asthma, cancer, hypertension, pulmonary and cardiovascular diseases.
