MS/PhD Electrical Engineering - (MSEE, PEE)

Program Overview

The MS/PhD in Electrical Engineering program provides advanced education and research to develop knowledge and expertise in all aspects of electrical engineering. The department has the services of 15 dedicated PhD faculty members with specialization in the areas of mobile wireless communications, signal processing, control systems, industrial electronics, computer architecture, power systems and embedded electronic system design. Specialized state-of-the-art laboratories, simulation and testing facilities are also available in the above areas.

Streams

MS (EE) Program offered at CUI, Lahore is up-to-date graduate program with its emphasis on research and learning. Currently we are offering following streams in our MS(EE) program:

5. Automation & Control Engineering
6. Power and Energy Engineering

MS Programme Structure

• The scholar has to complete a minimum of 30 credit hours for MS degree, out of which he/she has to undertake minimum 24 credit hours of course work and 06 credit hours of MS thesis/Research Project.
• The scholar can register a minimum of 03 credit hours and maximum of 12 credit hours in a semester.
• The scholar can register an alternate elective course from the approved list of elective course of the program in case the failed elective course is not being offered by the respective department.
• The scholar can register for research thesis after completion of 12 credit hours of course work, on the advice of the Supervisor/Supervisory Committee/Graduate Advisory Committee.

PhD Programme Structure

• A PhD scholar shall be required to complete 18 credit hours of graduate level course work. However, the scholar may be given exemption of up to two courses by the Board of Advanced Studies and Research (BASAR) on the recommendation of the scholar's supervisory committee.
• The scholar can register a minimum of 03 credit hours and maximum of 12 credit hours in a semester at PhD level.
• The scholar can register an alternate elective course from the approved list of elective course of the program in case the failed elective course is not being offered by the respective department.
• The registration of PhD thesis of 09 credit hours will be after the completion of coursework of PhD.

Admission Criteria

For MS

1. A 16 years degree in the relevant field from an accredited educational institution with First Division (annual system) or CGPA 2.5/4.0 (semester system).
2. No third division or D grade throughout the academic career.
3. GAT (General) with 50% marks.

For PhD

1. An MS/MPhil with Thesis/research project or its equivalent degree with Thesis/research project in the relevant field from an accredited educational institution with minimum CGPA of 3.0/4.0 under semester system or 70% under conventional system with no third division or D grade throughout the academic career.
2. GRE (subject) as per HEC policy, or GAT (subject) with at least 60% marks.
3. For admission in PhD Electrical Engineering Program, any one of the existing GAT (subject) tests in Electrical, Telecom or Electronics Engineering will be acceptable with a minimum score of 60% marks.

Degree Requirements

For MS

Minimum 30 credit hours, out of which 24 credit hours for course work and 06 credit hours for thesis/research project.
