"Congratulations to Dr. Neelam Mughees on Successfully Defending Her PhD Thesis!"

Lahore, July 5, 2024 - In a landmark academic achievement, Neelam Mughees has successfully defended her PhD thesis titled “Demand Response for Industrial Micro-Grids by Managing the Uncertainties of Renewable Energy Sources” at COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus. Her groundbreaking research focused on lowering the electrical and thermal energy costs of an industry using integrated demand response programs under the supervision of Dr. Mujtaba Hussain Jaffery (Associate Professor) and Co-Supervision of Dr. Muhammad Jawad (Associate Professor).
Her research focused on integrated demand response program operation strategy that allows automatic switching between available multi-energy sources and use the lowest-cost energy provider in a multi-energy microgrid in response to industrial load demand, and electrical and thermal energy pricing signals (time of use (TOU), real time pricing (RTP), and fixed pricing (FP)). A reinforcement learning (RL)-based composite differential evolution (DE) method is proposed to optimize a scenario-based non-convex IDR optimization problem, which allows switching between energy sources by reducing the overall energy and battery degradation costs. Furthermore, renewable energy sources (solar and wind power) uncertainties are also handled and the concept of superconducting magnetic energy storage system has also been implemented.
The panel of esteemed external examiners, including Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kamran and Prof. Dr. Tahir Izhar, praised the dissertation for its novelty and application potential. Supervisor has expressed his thanks to the Convener Prof. Dr. Sobia Baig, HoD Dr. Muhammad Naeem Awais, and all others who extended their full support and cooperation in achieving this milestone.
