BS Electrical Engineering (Electronics)

Electronics engineering is an old and popular stream under the umbrella of electrical engineering, playing a vital role in almost every field of human life. Broadly, it includes analogue, digital, and power electronics. The knowledge of the stream is working behind almost all the modern-day technologies including consumer electronics, embedded systems, health care equipment, the automation industry, instrumentation and control, chip design, telecommunication systems, and many more. From simple hand-held digital watches to complicated digital computers, electronic engineering is seen at the front-end in design of these devices. The focus of the electronic engineering program is on strengthening our students in the areas such as analogue and digital circuits design, embedded hardware and circuit design and automation system design using microcontrollers etc. In addition to that students are trained and familiarized with state-of-the-art and industry-standard tools and equipment. To further enhance their technical abilities, students are provided with the opportunity to take certified short-courses on various modern technologies within the vicinity of university campus. The stream is designed in a way to help the graduates to serve in the field of electronics ranging from maintenance, management, design, and reverse engineering.

Program Scope and Structure:

The main driving force behind the recent day’s revolution of information technology is the development and advancement in electronics engineering. Advancements in microelectronics, satellite communication, optical fiber technology and digital systems have resulted in development of complex electronics devices, circuits and equipment capable of implementing fast and efficient electronic systems. Electrical engineering with specialization in electronics covers the main areas of electrical engineering such as analogue and digital circuit analysis and design, microprocessor and microcontroller based circuits and system design, AC to DC converters, DC to AC converters, AC/DC motor drives and embedded system design. In addition, flavor of VLSI circuit design and its simulation also falls in the scope of this stream. The scheme of studies for this stream is designed in such a way that not only enhances the analytical abilities of the student but also imparts the ability of critical thinking on every-day engineering problems. Core courses of this stream have been selected that inculcate in students the fundamental as well as in-depth knowledge of electronic engineering. Advanced courses cover latest technologies in the field of computing, circuit simulation, analysis and testing the designs. Different subjects from associated engineering fields such as computer engineering and electrical engineering are also the part of this stream. Upon completion of designed requirements of the specialization students can also select some courses from a list of elective courses that fits to their final-year project requirements as well as for industry demand.

Career Prospects:

Electrical engineers with specialization in electronics are in high demand in many national/international industrial and research and development (R&D) sectors such as telecommunications, consumer electronic product designers, microelectronics, industrial controls, power utilization and medical equipment etc. With the specialization in electronic engineering students are able to join the fields of analog and digital systems, embedded systems, power electronic and renewable energy systems as well as industrial automation systems.
