MS/PhD in Chemistry
Program Overview
In the Department of Chemistry, a Master's degree program is focused on advanced study in the field of chemistry. It is typically a research-based degree that provides students with the opportunity to conduct independent research and develop specialized knowledge in their areas of interest within chemistry. The program is typically two years in duration, with the first year dedicated to coursework and the remaining year devoted to research and the preparation of a thesis. The MS Chemistry program is ideal for students who want to pursue a career in academia or research, as well as for those who want to enhance their knowledge and skills in the field of chemistry. The program covers a range of topics, including inorganic, organic, analytical, physical, biochemistry, theoretical and computational chemistry and materials sciences. Graduates of MS Chemistry program may go on to work in industry, government, or academia, or pursue further education, such as a PhD.
Admission Criteria
The admission into the graduate program is very competitive based on merit. The merit will be determined on the basis of the academic records, NTS test and interview.
Admission Pre-Requisites
- A 16 years degree in any discipline of Chemistry from an accredited institution, with minimum First division (annual system) or CGPA 2.5/4.0 (semester system) and no third division (Annual system) or 'D' grade (semester system) throughout academic career.
- NTS GAT (General) with minimum score of 50.
Program Structure
A student enrolled in MS Chemistry program is required to take:
- 3 core courses of 09 credit hours
- 5 elective courses of 15 credit hours
- Research thesis of 6 credit hours
Learning Activities
- Regular Classes
Duration of the regular classes would be one and half hour.
- Presentations
Three major presentations are mandatory for MS student. These are as follows;
- Synopsis Defense Seminar
- Thesis Pre-defense Seminar
- Final Thesis Defense
- Dissertation/Research
The student shall submit a Dissertation/Thesis on the subject of his/her research work.
