PhD (Stat)
Program Introduction
In past few years the demand of statistical sciences has observed many-fold increase. Researcher’s in almost all disciplines are using statistical techniques to validate their research. Latest researches in allied areas sometime use existing statistical techniques but sometime existing techniques are not suitable and people needs to develop new statistical methods. The PhD degree in Statistics will train the candidates such that they can develop new statistical techniques or they can create new knowledge in the subject. During this degree the scholars will be taught to develop new statistical methods and also develop their capabilities in using existing statistical techniques in allied areas. This program is a sweet blend of both theory and application of statistical sciences. The program is aimed at producing the graduates who can contribute to theoretical as well as applied side of the subject.
To complete the PhD Statistics degree, the candidate must: Complete a minimum of 18 credit hours course work and thesis of 9 credit hours.
Program Objectives
The Doctor of Philosophy program in Statistics prepares students, through quality lectures, practicalEXPERIENCES , and other research opportunities, for involvement in teaching and independent and collaborative statistical research. This programme trains researchers to teach and to conduct research on analytical approaches to investigating data driven decision making methodologies
Program Scope
Career fields for graduates of this program may be found in all areas of research, industry, and government. . There is a steady demand for highly trained professionals in data analytics, so graduates of Ph.D.-Statistics program can be placed in academia, federal research laboratories, government agencies, defense and financial firms and nonprofit organizations.
Career Prospects
There are excellent opportunities for a person with a degree in statistics. Job opportunities are varied. A candidate with PhD Statistics degree may:
- Consult in the design and analysis of clinical studies, evaluating new pharmaceutical agents
- Design EXPERIMENTS for agricultural, ecological, environmental, or energy-related studies
- Determine mortality, morbidity, and accident rates for an insurance company
