Usama Ahmed

Profile

Usama Ahmed is a full-time PhD student at the Department of Computer Science, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, working under the supervision of Prof. Syed Asad Hussain. He is an active member of the Communication Networks Research Center. He received his MS degree in Information Security from the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Islamabad, Pakistan in 2009, and is an awardee of the HEC Indigenous PhD Fellowship.

His areas of interest include information security concerns in mobile sensor networks, software defined networks and inter-cloud computing.

Research summary

An Adaptive Trust-Aware Brokerage in Cross-cloud Federation

Cross-cloud federation (CCF) is beneficial for heterogeneous cloud service providers expanding their service footprint without predefined and long-standing agreements. This research establishes the need for trust awareness in CCF as a unique case, owing to the heterogeneous, multilevel and dynamic nature of federation. Existing work on trust evaluation for cloud computing proves deficient for a cloud-to-cloud trust paradigm, mainly because it is user centric, non-hierarchical and non-composite. Novel solutions for trust and reputation evaluation in cross-cloud federation are required whose underlying mechanisms align with the way federation is constructed.
