Regenerative Medicine, Tissue Engineering, Environmental Biology & Bioinformatics Research Group

The TREB Group at the Interdisciplinary Research Centre in Biomedical Materials (IRCBM), COMSATS University Lahore, is a multidisciplinary research group committed to advancing knowledge and solutions at the interface of health, environment, and technology. Our research spans four interconnected domains—Tissue Engineering, Regenerative Medicine, Environmental Biology, and Bioinformatics.

Research Focus Areas

• Tissue Engineering: We develop biomimetic scaffolds, bioactive materials, and 3D tissue models to promote tissue regeneration. Our work integrates cell biology, materials science, and nanotechnology to engineer functional tissue constructs for clinical and research applications.
• Regenerative Medicine: Our group explores strategies to stimulate the body's own repair mechanisms. We investigate the therapeutic potential of stem cells, growth factors, and gene editing technologies to treat degenerative diseases and injuries, particularly in musculoskeletal, neural, and cardiovascular systems.
• Environmental Biology: This research pillar investigates the ecological interactions of biomaterials and pollutants. We study plant responses to contaminated soils, phytoremediation, and biomaterial-mediated soil restoration. Additionally, we assess how biomedical waste, especially polymeric and nanomaterials, affects soil, water, and microbial ecosystems, bridging the gap between medical innovation and environmental responsibility.
• Bioinformatics: We harness computational tools to decode complex biological systems. Our bioinformatics efforts focus on genomics, transcriptomics, and systems biology, supporting precision medicine and guiding experimental design in tissue engineering and regenerative therapies.
