Tree Plantation Drive
The inaugural ceremony of tree plantation drive was held after the Flag hoisting ceremony to
celebrate the 71st Independence Day for a “Green Pakistan” with a plantation of more than 1500
trees at the CUI, Lahore Campus. Tree plantation drive is bound to reduce the adverse weather
effects and accordingly inspired the employees and families of CUI, Lahore Campus actively
took part in it. The event was jointly arranged by the University's Horticulture Department,
Faculty Members, Administration and students. Acting Director, Prof. Dr. M. A. Farooqui, while
planting the ornamental and shady trees at the lawn in front of Baradari announced that the CUI,
Lahore Campus will play its due role in developing pollution-free green Pakistan. HoD’s,
Section Incharges, Faculty Members, Students and Staff Members along with their families
participated in the tree plantation drive.
More than 60 students together with their teachers arranged 150 plants themselves to join the tree
plantation drive of the University. The students thoroughly enjoyed the activity with an ambition
that this is just a beginning; and they assured that they will keep on doing such noble activities in
the future as well.
More specifically, the plantation was carried out at different following sites and plants
were planted according to the designed landscape of the Campus such as Ficus (Black,
Golden, Hawaii etc), Table palm, Date palm, Phoenix Palm Willow, Mango, Gaman,
Bakain,Tabubia, Gul-e- Nastran, Amaltas, Conocarpus, and Ulta Ashoke.
1- Main Lawn in front of Baradari.
2- Road side along the wall of CUI on Defense Road.
3- Green belt along the wall of CUI from Old chemical to Gate #3.
4- Area between Commercial Nursery and Transport Section.
5- Along the “Kaccha” road from Gate #03 to Officer Colony.
It has been decided that the Tree Plantation Campaign will be extended beyond the Lahore
Campus for which all nearby schools will be included in the campaign. The students, with the
help of Horticulture Department will be planting trees in these schools in collaboration with the
school administration and school students. It has been planned that 10,000 trees will be planted
in this season alone.
