Down Syndrome in Pakistan

Down Syndrome is a condition in which the child is born with an extra copy of their 21st chromosome, this causes physical and mental disabilities in the child. In Pakistan one out of every seven hundred children is born with this disorder. Unfortunately, in our country we do not have a proper infrastructure to cater to the cognitive development and educational needs of the huge number of children with this disability.

My project is a humble initiative that would assist teachers to implement interactive teaching methods for children with down syndrome. Keeping in mind the mental ability of these children and with the help of psychologists and teachers I designed an activity book for them. This colorful book consists friendly doodled characters who through a story engage children in basic exercises and games in order to teach them about their surroundings and to read and write. I have also designed a website for this initiative to engage different institutions, teachers and parents to help this cause with a community effort.
