Bachelor of Interior Design

The all-encompassing discipline of creative arts and artists-craftsmen-builders has engaged humans in the distinct pursuits of visual arts, architecture, interior design, engineering and industry-dependent designs, etc. These pursuits are diverse and well-grounded in their individual capacities; and yet the shared objective of realizing focused, correct and inspired environments that are designed by innovative minds and built by intelligent hands have now developed them into well-established disciplines with building specializations that are now aggressively guarded by respective associations and professional bodies. With ever-growing knowledge in each discipline, and the eventual capacity of each expanding building profession (architecture, engineering, visual arts, interior design, furniture design), it invites attention to an all-inclusive education, getting inspiration from literature to come up with an interior space or focusing on a painting and creating an office space or a furniture piece. Such broad based, diverse and refined programs and projects encourage students and pedagogues to explore strategic and innovative attitudes and approaches when career planning, advancing educational qualification and areas of specialization, and/or increasing professional knowledge.

Philosophy of the Program and its Specificity

Creativity is an attempt to find and realize what is within. This struggle is a process of clarifying the essence of the opportunity peering down the extraneous notion to reveal inherent relationships. Creativity is the ability to invent rather than imitate.
Creativity is a process of seeking the problem, understanding the situation, finding relationships, visualizing the solutions, testing the consequences and finally solving the problem.
The process can be summed up as follows:

  • Dissemination and profound insight
  • Becoming one with the idea; Saturation
  • Cohabitation with the idea; Incubation of sensations
  • Enlightenment and nirvana
  • Corroboration, by confirming and verifying

The BID program entails the holistic (ideation, perception, emotion) conceptualization, technical and economically feasible development, appropriate and optimal specification and finally correct and accurate execution of the design. The scope of BID can include the comprehensive content and quality of interior spaces with a structurally and environmentally adequate exterior shell with all its apertures (doors, windows, skylights). This can entail either the interiors of a new building or the preservation, renovation or more commonly said; adaptive reuse of buildings, and comprises the following elemental ideas that distinguish it as the link between professional practice of architecture and the artistic and holistic (ideational, perceptual, emotional) quality of the experienced interiors
