Strategic Workshop of CIF-Network & Establishment of CIF Sub-Offices at Six Campuses of CIIT

For over a decade various Islamic Financial Institutions (IFIs) have been established in Pakistan and abroad to serve Islamic Finance. Supplementing this cause, COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT), Lahore has established Center of Islamic Finance (CIF) in 2014 and now has established sub-offices in each campus of COMSATS in six following cities of Pakistan for better outreach of Center of Islamic Finance.

The CIF at CIIT, Lahore successfully conducted a Strategic Workshop of CIF-Network on December 7, 2016 at PhD Faculty Block, in the Conference Room. Mr. Ghulam Muhammad Abbasi, Director IBD, State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) inaugurated the event where he deliberated the role SBP and Government’s policy about Islamic Finance. He also pledges support to increase the outreach of Islamic Banking and Finance. He shared his valuable knowledge with over 35 notable participants including Shariah advisors, senior researchers and academicians. Mr. Ghulam Muhammad Abbasi also distributed memento of CIF sub-offices to focal persons of all campuses. Prof. Dr. Akram Laldin (ED ISRA) and Emeritus Prof. Rodney Wilson joined the session through Skype and provided their valuable remarks for the improvement of CIF and the Role of Islamic Financial Institutions in the world. Learning areas by the invited speakers included:

  • Understanding of Shari’ah Sources of Islamic Banking and its practices
  • The core principles of Islamic Finance.
  • How Islamic Banking is different than conventional under Shari’ah rulings.

Dr. Ammad Ul Haque, Assistant Professor (CIIT Lahore) on Shariah Advisory Services and about the establishment of these Services at Center of Islamic Finance.
Dr. Muhammad Ali Jibran Qamar, Assistant Professor (CIIT Lahore) provided detail about the Global Islamic Finance Magazine by CIF.
Mr. Jamil Anwar, Assistant Professor (CIIT, Abbottabad) made a presentation on CIF-Banking Consortium and Mr. Bilal Iqbal Mian, Academic Coordinator (CIIT Sahiwal) on CIF training programme.
Ms. Gullnaz Altaf (CIIT Lahore) presented the role of Social media for the promotion of CIF and its activities.
The session concluded with closing remarks by Dr. Abdus Sattar Abbasi (Head CIF) CIIT, Lahore and at the end Certificate Distribution was held effectively.
