Islamic Finance - A Socially Responsible and Sustainable Model

Global Forum on Islamic Finance (GFIF) 2020 promises to be yet another outstanding event like the previous GFIFs that will enlarge the research sphere by providing international research cooperation and exposure. The eighth GFIF will have the honor to host leading researchers not only from Pakistan but a unique mix of unexcelled gurus of Islamic Finance from different parts of the world will deliberate and enlighten the audience with their notion on the theme “Islamic Finance - A Socially Responsible and Sustainable Paradigm”.

The theme of GFIF 2020 also invites academicians, researchers, professionals and a growing worldwide industry of Islamic banking to explore the likely impacts of Islamic Finance on sustainable world. The event will provide a platform for dynamic collaboration among the national and international institutions and participants to foster research and capacity building in the area of Islamic economics and finance.

GFIF 2019 inaugurated by Dr. Ishrat Hussain, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Institutional Reforms and Austerity

Dr. Ishrat Hussain, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Institutional Reforms and Austerity graced the 7th GFIF 2019 as the Chief Guest and Mr. Raja Yasser Humayun Sarfaraz, Provincial Minister for Higher Education and Mr. Samiullah, Provincial Minister for food and Mr. Mujeeb Ur Rehman Shami, Chief Editor Thursday Daily, Pakistan were the guests of Honor at 7th GFIF. The two days event was opened by a keynote address Mr. Syed Amir Ali, CEO & President, Bank Islami Pakistan who laid emphasis on meeting sustainable development goals through Islamic finance.

Training: Islamic Banking Product Development


Product development plays an embryonic role in continues improvement and development of Islamic bankinginstitutions.This training provides a hands-on experience andtake-to-office guidelines for designing and implementing Islamic financial innovation with overall objectives of improving the banking efficiency and outreach. Firstly, the participants will be introduced with banking product expansion and reconfiguration strategies, to decide about best workable banking innovation strategies, for varying regulatory frameworks. Secondly, the participants will be introduced to Islamic banking products structures and modularity to make them able to design new product and service modules as action elements for implementing the provided innovation strategies. Finally, the participants will get involved in to co-create a prototype banking product using a practicalproduct development process, that can be adapted to various contexts. The training methodology includes case studies on novel product structures, hands-on activities, and product blueprinting.

The participants of this training are expected to understand the implementation of :

The Trainer

Dr. Karim Ullah

Karim Ullah has a PhD Management Research, on designing Islamic financial services, from Brunel University London, UK using case study method and has executive learning on case learning method from Harvard Business School, MA, USA. He is a certified trainer from IFC World Bank on designing training content, training of trainers, and evaluating the trainers. Karim earned multiple goldmedels and awards for his outstanding applied research and industry contributions.

He has more than 10 years of experience in training, consulting, and lecturing on Islamic financial services with universities, regulators, and financial institutions mostly using case text as training and research method and case thinking as managerial skill to form and manage effective working teams. He is part of the apex government committees to help in policies for Islamic financial services and product development. Karim regularly presents his case research work and trainings at various forums in US, UK, Turkey, Malaysia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, UAE, and Saudi Arabia.

In 2015, Karim was in news for leading a team who won the Financial Innovation Challenge Fund of UK Department for International Development (UK DFID) and Central Bank of Pakistan to establish a Centre for Excellence in Islamic Finance at Institute of Management Sciences (CEIF IMSciences), Pakistan. The challenge was aimed to integrate education, research, and best industry practices for the financial inclusion. Currently, Karim is severing as Assistant Professor and heading the CEIF IMSciences.

Karim has scholarly books and papers publications including a recent case-based nook on Islamic financial services authored with Dr. Wafi Al-Karaghouli and published by Koganpage simultaneously from London, New York, and New Delhi. He also co-authored cases-based book on Takaful with Adnan Malik published by Palgrave from New Delhi and Singapure. Both these books have won the outstanding research awards for being the country’s best management books for 2017 and 2016, respectively. Alongside multiple scholarly papers in reputed journals, Karim publishes opinion articles with various publishers including those with Thomson Reuters.
