Introduction
Computer Vision is one of the leading research fields today. The surge in the development of smartphones has led to production of a lot of data where visual data has the lion's share. According to SISCO, 80% of the world's internet traffic is video. According to an estimate, It would take an individual more than 5 million years to watch the amount of video that will cross global IP networks each month. Such huge amount of visual data require analysis and interpretatation to address the endless real world challenges. Computer Vision is meant to process and analyze the visual data for detection, segmentation, recognition and tracking the object of iterest. The comuter vision covers a wide range of application from cosmology, remote sensing, agriculture, transportation, industry, medical diagnosis etc.
Machine Learning is the art making the computer learn extremely quickly and perform the tasks of a human expert. A human learns from experience and takes intelligent decision based on that. The purpose of machine learning is to replace the human expert with computer to perform important tasks. The computer learns from the data and develops intelligence based on mathematical hypothesis, which leads it to autonomous decision making. The large amount of data available today may be used to make machine learn and take smart decisions. There are many applications of machine learning including prediction, classification, recognition and recommendataion. A few among many target application areas include eletric power time series forecasting, sensor and image data analysis, medical diagnosis, object detection, object recognition, image segmentation etc.
Objectives
- To conduct the research on novel ideas and applications of computer vision and machine learning
- To engage the MS/PhD students in cutting-edge research to address the problems of local industry/government
- To suggest the Final Year Projects (FYPs) to the Final year students and guide them to convert it into the useful and need oriented prototypes/products
- To publish the research in the journals of international repute
- To establish collaboration with national and international research groups for project funding addressing national/local challenges
