Prof. Dr. Robina Farooq (T.I.) is highly accomplished academic leader with a proven track record of success in management, teaching, research, and social outreach programs. She possesses broad experience in organizing, managing, and supporting the day-to-day activities of Higher educational institutions. Her strong team management skills and ability to work individually and as part of a group are unique. Throughout her academic career, she accumulated a wealth of experience with various tasks in developing strategies for budgeting, resource planning, financial management, recruitment, human and financial resource management, admissions, curricula development, revamping educational programs, involving in cutting edge research activities, construction, working with stakeholders of the society and fundraising, etc. She is familiar with USA, UK, Chinese and Pakistani governance systems of universities.

She worked in numerous distinguished universities of Pakistan (Punjab and KPK) ,United States of America, Britain, Sweden and China for the last 33 years. She has contributed to 22 different universities across Pakistan, serving on various bodies such as search committee for rector appointment, senate, syndicate, selection board, academic council, board of advanced studies and research, board of faculties, board of studies, works committees, and inquiry committees. Her technical expertise and professional input have been instrumental in addressing the complex challenges faced by these numerous universities. Therefore, she emerged as a leader proficient at advising on all matters pertaining to the advancement of higher education within Pakistan.

During her professional career, she contributed in numerous academic, research activities and served as Vice Chancellor of the largest Women University (GC Women University Faisalabad, Pakistan). She also worked as Head University Industry Linkage and outreach section, Chairperson Chemistry, Head of Office of Research Innovation and Commercialization, Quality Enhancement Cell, Pharmacy, Chemistry, Students Start up Business Centre, Business Incubation Centre and hostels Provost at COMSATS University Islamabad, Pakistan. Her skills were further polished by her inclusion as top 25 Women Leaders of the country under ‘Senior Fellow of The Advanced Women’s Leadership Program, Michigan State University (2022-2023). She secured prestigious CAS-President’s International Fellowship by Chinese Academy of Science, China. Her exposure to national issues and international relationships is phenomenal and she on special invitation attended  National Workshop Baluchistan – XIII (2024) and has broadened her network with academic, media & civil society leaders and top ranked civil / army officers. National and international network is essential to grow as a community and work in a global village.

She secured first position in PhD, MSc, BSc & Matriculation examinations and completed her education on various scholarships including, Post Doc (HEC Funded, University of Glasgow, UK); PhD ( funded under Cultural Scholarship program, East China University of Sc &Tech, Shanghai, China), MPhil (Brunel University, London, UK) and MSc (funded under Quaid-I-Azam Talent Scholarship program, University of Agriculture Faisalabad).

Contribution of research to societal welfare/state of knowledge. As a renowned researcher in the field of environmental Engineering, Prof. Dr. Robina Farooq worked on numerous industrial projects for the benefit of society and was granted with United States patents (02), Pakistan patent (01) & obtained a trademark (01) and commercialized her research-based water analysis kit SinoW® which is being widely used by industries, water companies and societies.

Her ninety two (92) research articles bear an Impact Factor of 155.69 with 2559 citations, h-index 24, i10-index 36 . She published eleven books / book chapters with national and international publishers. She has accomplished eleven nationally (HEC, PSF, PCST) and internationally (USA, China, Sweden) funded research project worth of Rs 249.424million. She secured funding for infrastructure development project (1.26 billion) for GCWUF and initiated construction work. She installed solar energy systems and constructed ponds for water harvesting.

Her patent on the conversion of sugar waste to renewable polymer is further funded by Sugar R&D board for bio-composites development. She has installed pilot plant for converting field waste to energy to extract energy and mitigate smog issue.  Her research helped to improve numerous industrial processes for the recovery of precious metals and materials. In one of her research project, she designed drinking water biological filters for farmers to reduce the impact of pesticides on their nervous system. Her patents, trademark, innovative industrial processes are being used to safeguard public from water borne diseases, recovery of precious substances from waste and for air pollution. Her creativity has foster effective collaboration among academia, research institutions, and industry stakeholders to drive indigenous product development and technological innovation.

Prof. Dr. Robina Farooq has worked in various departments such as Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Pharmacy and Environmental sciences and accomplished numerous projects with China, Pakistan, UK, USA and Sweden. Prof. Dr. Robina Farooq worked as editor, project and manuscripts reviewers and accomplish many R &D projects. 

Expertise for Efficient University Resource (Human & Financial) Administration. She possesses an exceptional set of skills and expertise that render her eminently qualified to fulfill a multitude of crucial functions to Manage Human and Financial Resources of Higher Education Institutions and optimized these resources by various IT-based systems; market-oriented programs are introduced after academic audit, teaching pedagogies are improved by various modes of teaching (synchronous, asynchronous, and flip classrooms) & conducted extensive faculty development programs, provided online banking facility to students; established art gallery, sports ground & set conducive environment for the activities of various societies.

An Average budget of Rs 1.2 billion was handled per year and provided financial stability to the University. She established Skill Development and Entrepreneurship center, Social Outreach program of ‘Women on wheels’, breast heath examination training and sports facility to the community. The international ranking agencies at top women University in QS Rankings (Asia & South Asia 2023) and under UI Green Metrics Ranking, GCWUF placed itself at 1st position among all Women Universities of Pakistan.

In the recognition of her professional life, twenty three (23) national and international prestigious awards are granted including ECO Excellence Award 2022; Tamgha-I- Imtiaz- 2021, IAAM Scientist Medal Award – 2018, Sweden, Stockholm; Best innovator Award 2011; Best University Teacher Award 2008; BASF Award, China as an excellent PhD student of the year – 2003.
