ICTP – CUI Visiting Scholars Program for Training and Research in Mathematics
(A Part of the ICTP Affiliated Centre Programme)
A Step Towards National Center of Excellence in Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics, COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI), Lahore Campus was established in 2005 with the vision of providing best mathematicians to the nation. Currently department has services of 30 PhD permanent faculty members, which is largest in its surroundings. It offers a strong undergraduate and graduate program in Mathematics. Currently, 50 PhD, 150 Master and 200 Undergraduate students are registered in the department.  Moreover, the department is located in Lahore which is central part of Pakistan. Thus the Department is an ideal place to gather researchers from the region. Recently, department of mathematics has taken an initiative to make a joint venture of

with the name “ICTP – CUI Visiting Scholars Program for Training and Research in Mathematics” to provide quality education to its students from world best faculty of Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics, Italy (ICTP). This venture will strengthen our MS program, create foreign funding for our students, and research collaborations with ICTP Faculty as well.
Initially, this distinguish venture proposed the following MS program at CUI Lahore campus.

MS Program

Program Overview

From spring 2019 to onward, the Department of Mathematics is going to run its MS program in collaboration with International Center for Theoretical Physics (ICTP – Italy), as part of the ICTP affiliated centre programme. It is worth mentioning here that this program will be supervised by distinguish professors from Pakistan jointly with Portugal, United Kingdom, Italy, Russia and other countries. In particular, most courses will be taught by foreign Professors in CUI Lahore and they will be available for research supervision as well. This program will train the students in areas of pure and applied mathematics. The program is open to all eligible students.

Program Objectives

The MS in Mathematics degree provides the thorough training related to core mathematical skills required to go aboard for a PhD degree program in Mathematics or for employment in areas that strongly demand vital mathematical background, such as research needed by industry and development sector.

A Reflection about Faculty

Mathematics department at CUI, Lahore has a group of dynamic researchers and teachers qualified from prestigious institutes of the world. In addition, several senior scholars will travel to Lahore and play a substantial role in teaching most of the courses in the program. During their visits the following professors will teach courses, conduct tutorial and interact with the students as well as discuss possible research projects with the faculty.
