Professor Yasmin Cheema is currently she an advisor at the Department of Architecture COMSATS Institute of Technology Lahore. She is the first woman in Pakistan who studied architecture in National College. She stood first with distinction. She was the also the first architect to qualify was a conservation architect and planner from the Middle Eastern Technical University, with G.P.A 4.00. Her specializations are Education, History , Conservation of Immovable Material Cultural Assets- Monuments, Historic Areas , Small Historic Cities and Villages, Adaptive Reuse of Immovable Culture Property, Immovable Cultural Property Legislature, Cultural Heritage Inventory Methodology, Architecture and Planning, Earthquakes Resistant buildings , Climate Change and Building design.
Professor Cheema established the External Advisory Board (EAB) for The Department of Architecture at CIIT Lahore. With generous funding from CIIT, HEC and AIP, the Department, for first two years (summer 2013 & 2014 held EAB curriculum and courses review workshops successfully. In summer of 2015 and 2016 subject specific EAB workshop were held, with funds from PPQP and AIPS. She has with others prepared the curriculum for MS program in Conservation of Cultural Heritage. This much needed program, will be the first in Pakistan for conservation of cultural heritage profession.
She was the founder member and Honorary Chairperson of the Conservation and Rehabilitation Center (CRC). Yasmin Master’s thesis on Conservation of Bibi Jawandi’s Tomb, was the basis of which CRC was able to attract funds from the world renowned organization, such as World Monument Fund, American Express Bank, Robert Wilson Challenge Grant, Syed Babar Ali Heritage Fund, Al Burkha Foundation, and OCAC. UNDP fund for mapping the city and training Uch para-professionals to map the city, its utilities and prepare a sewerage network plan.
During her duration at Department of Architecture, Dawood College of Engineering and Technology, Karachi (1996 – 2000), she established The Heritage Support Cell, found funding to run it for the 4 years.
Professor Cheema has been a Board Member of National College of Arts, and is a member of Punjab Heritage Fund since 2002. 2002 to-date, Member Board Of Governors, Punjab Heritage Fund, Government of Punjab. 2009 to-date, she is Member Technical Committee , Tomb of Anarkali, Services and General Administration Department, Archive Wing, Government of Punjab . From 2007 to 2010, she was Heritage Specialist Technical Expert, Department of Antiquities, Sindh Government, while from 2000 to 2006, she was a Consultant for Aga Khan Cultural Services:
She is a Fellow of National College of Arts and a Distinguished Professor of Architectural Research, of Architecture Department, Beacon House National University, Lahore.
