Dr. Usama Ijaz Bajwa is currently serving as Assistant Professor/ Associate Head of Department, Department of Computer Science, COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI), Lahore Campus. He did his M.S. & PhD from Center for Advance Studies in Engineering (CASE), Islamabad. He completed his MSc in computer science from Hamdard University, Karachi back in 2001.
After his MSc he joined COMSATS Information Technology Center (CITC) as an Assistant System Analyst and as Lecturer in the Computer Science Department at COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Abbottabad. After completing his MS, he served as a visiting researcher at the Medical Imaging Lab, University of South Wales, Treforest, Wales, United Kingdom.


Usama's last assignments at CIIT Abbottabad included: Graduate Program Coordinator, Program Chair International Conference on Frontiers of Information Technology (FIT) from 2014-till date, Head Information Security and Image Processing Research Group, along with teaching courses and supervising graduate and under graduate thesis. Before that he served as a Team Lead in an ICT R&D funded project "Automatic Personal Identification Biometric Systems for Large Scale Application" (APIBS). Since January 2008, he has been associated with the Vision and Pattern Recognition Systems (VisPRS) Research Group. The group has successfully completed two R&D projects funded by Ministry of IT and Telecom, Pakistan, related to Biometrics and Video Encoding. During this time he also co-founded a company, Technology Nucleus (Pvt) Ltd.


His main areas of research interests include biometrics, medical image analysis and image processing. He has authored or co-authored 44 international conference and journal research papers.
