Organized by Ms. Ayesha Aziz and Sarah Saeed, this seminar aimed at spreading awareness regarding a widespread genetic blood disorder in Pakistani society. According to an estimate around 5,000 children in Pakistan are diagnosed with Thalassemia every year. In the absence of a permanent cure, they need blood transfusion on regular basis. Dr. Shahid Pervaiz from Fatimid Foundation addressed the students and highlighted the causes and major symptoms of Thalassemia. He noted that although incurable yet this disorder could be prevented by undergoing certain tests before marriage. He also noted that since Thalassemic patients need constant blood transfusion throughout their life, it is the civic duty of healthy people to donate blood as much as possible. Blood donation is a magnanimous act and it doesn’t harm our health in any ways. The seminar was followed by a two day long blood camp arranged outside N Block. The turnout at the camp was huge as students showed keen interest in blood donation.
