Dr. Faiza Sharif is a Tenured Associate Professor at the Interdisciplinary Research Centre in Biomedical Materials (IRCBM), COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI), Lahore Campus. She holds a PhD in Integrative Zoology from the Institute of Biology at Leiden University, the Netherlands, and completed her postdoctoral research fellowship at the University of Sheffield, UK, specializing in biomaterials and tissue engineering.

Her research centers on regenerative biomedical materials and tissue engineering, with a focus on:

  • Designing polymers, polymer composites, and bio-synthesized materials for medical applications.

  • Advancing therapies for wound healing, skin regeneration, soft tissue repair, and periodontal defects.

  • Harnessing adipose-derived stem cells (isolated from human fat) to develop personalized regenerative therapies.

  • Rigorous in vitro testing using human skin constructs, pre-osteoblasts, fibroblasts, keratinocytes, and cancer cell lines.

  • In vivo evaluation of biomaterials in rat and rabbit models to ensure clinical relevance.

Currently, Dr. Sharif is translating her innovations into indigenous, life-saving biomaterials through collaborations with clinicians in maxillofacial and plastic surgery, aiming to bridge laboratory breakthroughs with real-world medical solutions. Moreover her recent endeavor includes developing cardiac patches to induce endogenous cardiomyocyte regeneration in collaboration with French counterparts through a bilateral research collaboration through PERIDOT research grant 2025.

Beyond her academic pursuits, she has traveled extensively across Europe and enjoys exploring Pakistan’s diverse cultural and natural landscapes.
