Dr. Murtaza is currently working as a Tenured Professor of Pharmaceutics at the Department of Pharmacy, COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI), Lahore Campus. He has extensive research experience. His research interest involves drug delivery, particularly topical, transdermal, and oral drug delivery. He has more than 350 publications (in impact factor journals) in his credit. He is also a member of the editorial boards of different renowned journals and regularly reviews articles for various peer-reviewed international journals.

Before joining CUI, Lahore Campus in May 2018, Dr. Murtaza served CUI, Abbottabad Campus form September 2010 to May 2018 as Assistant Professor and then April 2018 to May 2018 as Associate Professor of Pharmaceutics. He became a Tenured Professor on July 03, 2023.

He also won the Indigenous PhD Fellowship, HEC and President's Postdoc fellowship, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), China and worked as a postdoc fellow at CAS in Beijing. Additionally, he has won several research grants.
