Dr. Fakhera Ikram is an Assistant Professor at Interdisciplinary Research Center in Biomedical Materials (IRCBM) COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Lahore. Her research interests lie primarily in the area of Molecular Oncology, Biotechnology and Biochemistry. Her spectrum of methods is broad and includes deep sequencing techniques, primer designing, cloning, retroviral gene transfer, lentiviral shRNA knockdown, cell cycle analysis by FACS, immunofluorescence, western blotting and functional analyses. Previously, she worked on molecular basis of autosomal recessive deafness at Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology (CEMB), University of the Punjab, Lahore. At the University of Cologne (Germany), her research was focused of “Identification and Characterization of Genetic Alterations in Neuroblastoma and their Prognostic Relevance”. During her postdoctoral period, she worked on identification of fusion-transcripts in neuroblastoma. Dr. Ikram has published her research in a range of reputed journals, including Nature. She has presented her research in many international conferences and symposia. She has been the winner of best oral presenation award in the category of basic science in Adnvances in Neuroblastoma Research (ANR 2014) meeting which was held in May 2014 in Cologne, Germnay. She also won the lerner Family Foundation Early Career Travel award to participate in “Advances in Neuroblastoma 2016 Meeting”, held in June 19-23, 2016 in Cairns, Queensland, Australia. Her current research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms of deadly disease, cancer. Currently, she is keen to investigate the molecular mechanism of cytotoxicity induced by metal nanoparticles in various cancer cell lines and animal models.
