2-Day workshop on “Secondary Data Analysis”
Department of Public Health, UHS in collaboration with Department of Economics, CUI, Lahore Campus
launched its 2-Day “Secondary Data Analysis” workshop from January 29-30, 2019. This workshop was
attended by the participants from public sector, private sector, NGOs and academic institutes.
University of Health Sciences, Lahore is a non-profit public-sector university located in Lahore,
Pakistan. It offers both graduate and undergraduate programs in the field of health sciences. UHS
Lahore recently launched its two day workshop on Secondary Data Analysis in collaboration
with COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus (CUI) which was held from 29th to 30th
January, 2019. The goal of the workshop was to train private and public sector officials to use
their collected secondary data for research, specifically the aim was to enhance their working
knowledge of two softwares: Stata and SPSS. It was expected that this knowledge of SPSS and
Stata would help those involved in research to become more adept at statistical analysis. The
prospects of collaboration between UHS and CUI, Lahore Campus were first discussed in
December, 2018 followed by another meeting in January, 2019. During these meetings, Prof.
Shakila Zaman, Head of Public Health Department, UHS and Dr. Hafiz Zahid Mahmood, Head
of Economics Department, CUI, Lahore Campus discussed prospective academic, research and
teaching collaboration between the two institutions. It was discussed that a memorandum of
understanding (MOU) should be signed to achieve these goals. For this purpose, in first phase it
was mutually agreed that a workshop on secondary data analysis should be arranged in which
CUI would arrange for experts to provide training in secondary data analysis.
