"Dr. Sobia Tabassum is an Associate Professor at the nterdisciplinary Research Centre in Biomedical Materials (IRCBM) COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus. She has a strong background in Material/Organic/Natural product/Computational chemistry. Her research at IRCBM primarily concerns the functionalization of materials to create state-of-the-art and intelligent materials for (1) targeted and responsive delivery and detection, and (2) advanced biomaterials for the treatment of oral, bone, spine, and wound defects.

she has authored more than 50 publications with a citation count of 1204, an h-index of 17, and an i10-index of 27.

Her group is developing simple, economical, and advanced biomaterials by grafting and functionalization to mimic the functions of complex biological compounds.

Her current endeavor involves collaborating with specialized clinicians in the fields of maxillofacial, periodontal, orthodontic, and orthopedic. Together, they are working on developing innovative approaches to address critical medical challenges in these fields. Furthermore, she is dedicating her efforts to translating her research findings into the creation of native biomaterials that possess life-saving properties. By doing so, she hopes to contribute to the advancement of medical technology and ultimately improve patient outcomes.

Dr. Tabassum obtained her PhD in Chemistry from Clausthal University of Technology, Germany, in April 2010 with magna cum laude grade. Her thesis title was "New Chiral Carbene Precursors for Catalysis and Chiral Recognitions," and her advisor was Prof. Dr. René Wilhelm.

She also earned her Master of Philosophy in Natural Product Chemistry from the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences, HEJ Research Institute of Chemistry, University of Karachi, Pakistan, from 2002 to 2007. Her thesis title was "Chemistry of Two Solanaceous Plants from Nigeria: Solanum erianthum D. Don and Solanum torvum Sw.," and her advisor was Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shaiq Ali."
