Dr. Ashfaq Ahmad is an Assistant Professor at COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus. He obtained his undergraduate and Master's degrees from the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore. He was awarded a merit scholarship and has been teaching for one year at UET. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS), China in 2016. In 2019, He won a green energy Post-Doctorate fellowship at Yeungnam University (YU) South Korea. At YU, he has done excessive multidisciplinary research and applied AI and ML techniques in the energy field. He served at the Virtual University of Pakistan as an instructor(CS) from 2007 to 2016. 

He has the following professional skills and expertise:

  • A dynamic multidisciplinary researcher and instructor with more than 15 years of experience in public and private sector research institutions.
  • Ability to apply Genetic, Heuristic, Evolutionary, and swarm-based optimization algorithms on multivariate problems.
  • Expertise in implementing AI, Machine Learning, and Deep learning models to enhance the efficiency of complex energy processes
  • Optimization of multivariate complex processes; particularly Processing and Liquefaction sections
  • AI-based optimization to produce efficient energy systems.
  • Expertise in adopting different programming languages w.r.t the nature of the problem
  • Ability to connect various industrial simulators to specific platforms like MATLAB, C++, or PYTHON to optimize complex processes or extract hidden patterns of process data using Machine learning and AI techniques.
  • Sufficient expertise in applying Machine learning (ML) and AI algorithms to solve complex interdisciplinary problems.
  • Developing and implementing supervised and unsupervised machine learning models for the non-linear types of datasets.
  • Ability to apply re-enforcement learning for the problems where conventional AI techniques failed to respond.
  • Making estimation for an unknown set of variables for a given multidimensional and nonlinear dataset.
  • Making and implementing hybrid optimization models. For Example, PSO-ANN, GA-ANN, ASO-RF, Random-forest based optimizer, etc. Hybrid optimization models enjoy the strengths of both ML and conventional optimization methods.
  • Training Machine Learning models for multidimensional datasets.
  • Training neural network models for big data analysis.
  • Applying AI-based prediction and estimation models to applied fields.
  • Ability to apply optimization algorithms to optimize the constraints and unconstraint problems.
  • Ability to solve problems related to Image processing, Image visualization, Image re-identification, Image searching, and object recognition.
